Term 2 Interim Reports
Last week students brought home their interim reports for the second term. They spent time in their advisories reflecting upon the work they have accomplished thus far, and setting healthy/measured goals for the second half of the term. Our hope is that this communication tool will give you an update on the progress your child is making in school. If you have any questions about your child's work or the reports, please start by having a conversation with your own child. If questions still exist, you should contact the teacher directly to gain more insight. All outstanding interim report 'sign-off' sheets need to be handed into advisors asap.
ADL Peer Leaders Visit 6th Grade
Our ADL Peer Leaders are excited to work with the 6th grade advisories this coming Friday, February 10. They will be teaching a lesson called "The Diversity Iceberg" which emphasizes that what you can see about a person is only a little bit of who they entirely are. From there they will run an activity called "Human Dominoes" which is a fun way for the students to learn what they might have in common with each other. The Peer Leaders will then join the 6th graders for lunch in the cafeteria.
Blake Celebrates Read Across America On Dr. Seuss's Birthday
"Let's create a day to celebrate reading. We hold pep rallies to get kids excited about football. We assemble to remember that Character Counts. Why don't we do something to get kids excited about reading? - Read Across America Founders, 1997
Blake will be Reading Across America, along with thousands of other schools in every state, on Thursday, March 2. We’ve decided this year for staff and students to concentrate on favorite books from childhood – what memories do they evoke? Why the book was important to you? Do you still carry any message from the story etc.? Each Advisory will spend their Sustained Silent Reading period on the 2nd sharing their favorites. Please feel free to reminisce with your sons and daughters about books you've read together during their younger years. An official announcement will go out next week.
Blake Volleyball Tournament
Blake Middle School will be holding its annual volleyball tournament for 6th-8th graders on Friday, February 17. Students have been working hard on their volleyball skills over the past few weeks and have been competing against their fellow classmates. We will determine a champion for each grade and that team will then take on the teachers. It promises to be an exciting day and a great way to head into vacation!
Recess Donations
At the midpoint of the year we are looking to build up our 'supplies' for indoor recess. We are looking for donations from families to provide options for students during this time: table tennis, table football, board games, etc. Any donations are welcome and can be dropped off in the main office - thank you in advance for your help!

Career Day for 8th Grade
Planning for the 8th grade Career Day is underway. Career Day will be held on Thursday, April 6th, 2017, which is also a half day for students. On this day we will have a morning of presentations given by a variety of professionals from many different occupations. Year after year people return to share their careers with our students but we need additional volunteers to help make this event successful. We invite you to volunteer to participate in this exciting program to enlighten our students about your occupation and career opportunities.
Please consider sharing your experiences regarding your present occupation, stories of interest and personal insights with eighth graders in three informal sessions of approximately 35 minutes each. The sessions run between 8:45 am and 10:35 am. If you are interested in participating, please contact Debbie Avery in the Blake Middle School Guidance Office at 508-359-2445 or email [email protected]. Thank you in advance for helping make our Career Day a continued success. We count on the community to make our program a rewarding and enriching experience for our students.

Every dollar raised by the auction goes directly to our schools. The MCPE has granted over $123,000 to our schools this fiscal year alone, and it's not over yet. We take the responsibility of your trust and investment very seriously.
