Topic/Question for the Dinner Table
To help encourage conversations and dialogue about a learning-driven culture and solution-oriented approach to solving problems, our topic/question(s) of the week are: What problem do you want to solve? What do you need to learn to be able to do that? Solution-Oriented (Week of 4/28/19) (This is an anonymous Google Form)
The Gettysburg Address
Each year a 7th grader is chosen to recite Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address at Medfield’s Memorial Day Ceremony. On November 19, 1863, Lincoln gave this address to dedicate a cemetery for Union soldiers a few months after the Battle of Gettysburg. Gettysburg was a three-day battle in Pennsylvania that was the bloodiest battle and a big turning point in the American Civil War. Congratulations to Kathryn Buckley for being selected as this year’s representative from Blake to march at the front of the town parade with the Medfield Selectmen and sit with the other speakers at the Ceremony.
Blake Book Fair - 5/1/19
On Wednesday, May 1, sixth and seventh graders will have the opportunity to attend our Summer Reading Book Fair with Park Street Books. During their English class, students will head to the LMC to check out this year's choices and purchase their summer reading books. Flyers and titles of the summer reading choices were e-mailed home on Monday. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s English teacher.
8th Grade Closing Ceremony
Our 8th grade closing ceremony and goodbye evening will be on Thursday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m. This evening will be our opportunity to thank and recognize our 8th graders for their years at Blake and wish them well as they head off to high school. Families are welcome, and there will be a reception with refreshments, including allergen-free treats, in the cafeteria following the ceremony. We are hoping for a 'cool weather' evening.
Students for Students
Students for Students will meet on Tuesday April 30th at 2:15 in the consumer science room. Tuesday’s activities include snacks and board game competitions.

Message from Class of 2022 Officers
Hello Students, Staff, and Parents of Blake Middle School! The Class of 2022 Student Government (Mary Long, Emma Bannister, Kerry White, Lillie Cumming, and Alex Lusby) is selling customized Medfield Hype Socks to raise money for future high school events. Before break, we came during all lunches to walk around and talk to the students about the fundraiser so they may already have an order form. We realize that it was a very last minute visit but we are planning on coming back with more info. The socks are $13/pair and are very good quality that work super well for almost any occasion! This Pre-Order Form Link can be printed out. This form and a $13 check made out to Town of Medfield can be sealed in an envelope and brought to the main office at BMS where there will be a box labeled “Class of 2022 Hype Sock Forms”. Please consider buying some of these Medfield socks, the Class of 2022 appreciates your support!
Thank you so much,
The Class of 2022 Student Government
MCAS Information
As we are now in 'MCAS season', the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education asks that we review our expectations with students prior to testing. English teachers will be reviewing student responsibilities in English classes in the weeks ahead. I have posted the Student Responsibilities during Testing sheet that will be reviewed with students during the week in their classes. I would like to call your attention to the updated guidelines with regard to electronics (iPods, iPhones, iPads, phones, Apple Watches, all types of Kindles, Nooks, and e-readers). The DESE states: "Results will be invalidated for students who use cell phones or other electronic devices at any time during a session, including after a student turns in his or her test materials, during a break, or during the transition to a test completion area." Blake students will be instructed to turn off all devices and place them in their locked hallway locker. This is a good time to check in with your child to be sure that they still have a combination lock on their locker and that they are using it to secure their belongings. Please review this aspect of digital responsibility with your child.
While we do not want to foster undue anxiety or pressure for students, a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast will ensure that they come to school prepared to do their best. Please be sure that students arrive at school on time. Arrival by 7:30 allows plenty of time to get settled. If your student is sick on the day of a scheduled test date, it is best for your child to get some rest and take it on a make-up day. Make up tests will be given throughout the testing window. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Kelly Campbell ([email protected]) or your child's guidance counselor.
May Dance for 7th/8th Grade
The final dance of the year is on Friday, May 17. A reminder that all students who wish to attend the dance should have submitted a dance contract. The time of the dance is from 7 pm to 9 pm in the Blake gym. A reminder that there are not cell phones or water bottles allowed in the gym. Students will have access to the water fountain, and there is a designated cell phone area. Additionally, students may leave early only if a pre-arranged parent or guardian picks the student up in person.
