Cluster/Advisory Placement Info for Incoming 6th-8th Grade Students
Tentative cluster and advisory assignments will be shared with students/families at the end of the school day via e-mail on Tuesday, June 13. E-mails will be sent directly to both students and parents/guardians. Please know that clusters and advisories are always subject to change based on budget, staffing, and curricular needs, as well as the possible influx of new students.
Transition Day for Incoming 6th-8th Grade Students
Transition Day will be taking place Wednesday, June 14 and that morning students will get the opportunity to meet their teachers and get a preview of next year's curriculum and grade level events.
8th Grade Closing Ceremony Update
Our 8th grade Closing Ceremony is scheduled for next Wednesday, 6/14 at 6:00 p.m. on the baseball field.
- All students should arrive by 5:45 p.m. so that we can start promptly at 6:00 p.m. When students arrive they should head directly to their seats on the baseball field (students will be sitting by advisory in alphabetical order). Students should not be entering the building before heading to their seats on the field.
- All students should enter the baseball field by the 'dugout entrance', near home plate.
- Families are welcome and we ask that all guests bring lawn chairs/blankets for seating in the outfield. We will have a limited number of chairs for our guests or those who may need some accommodated seating.
- We ask that students and families do not bring any food on to the field, and that only water be brought for beverages.
- Students typically like to dress up a bit but cool, comfortable clothing makes sense and is appropriate -- collared shirts and nice shorts, dresses, or pants are common choices. Both students and families should dress for a potentially warm evening.
- If the weather turns and we are unable to hold the ceremony outside, it will take place in the Blake Middle School gymnasium on Wednesday, June 14.

Civics Showcase
This year the Department of Education held its first "showcase" event to highlight the work of students who have done excellent work on the Civics Action Project. The showcase happened on the campus of Clark University in Worcester on June 2nd. Mr. Keohan and Mr. Sullivan chaperoned three collaborative groups that presented projects they have worked on throughout the school year. Students were assigned one of the state legislative districts in Massachusetts, researched a topic within that district where they could advocate for a positive change, and contacted their State Representative with a prospective plan to help make that change. 8th grade students who attended the trip: Abby Fisch, Sofia Varela, Owen Marsette, Luke Heffernan, Chris Unger, Ryan Healey, Liam Curry, Will Sullivan, Audrey Grandinetti, Ella Roeder, and Charlie Werner
Library Books are Due!
All library books are due back this week! We would appreciate help checking at home for any library books. They tend to have many hiding places, under beds, buried under piles of laundry or even in backpacks, books can be sneaky that way :) Of course we want as many books back as possible but we also understand the mistakes and accidents happen so if any student has a question or problem about a book on their account please have them come and speak to me or email me at [email protected]. If a book is truly lost and you can replace it, or give the library a gift card to Park Street books, that would be greatly appreciated but is not required. Thank you for your help!

MICCA Festival Follow Up!
The 7th & 8th grade band, chorus, orchestra, jazz ensemble and jazz choir participated in the Great East Festival last Friday, June 2.
School music groups from all over New England participate in the festival each year. Approximately 200 Blake students performed in the MHS Auditorium Friday morning before traveling to Six Flags New England in Agawam. The performances were adjudicated by veteran music educators who also led each of the ensembles in a short clinic. All of the BMS music ensembles gave outstanding performances! The Band, Orchestra, Chorus and Jazz Choir each received a Gold rating while the Jazz Band received a Platinum rating! Students had a great day at the park. Thank you to all of the teachers and parents who chaperoned!
Each ensemble got to participate in a short workshop with the judges following their performance. After the performances, all musicians enjoyed a fun day at Six Flags!
Message from Our Nurses
As we wind down the school year, we hope you and your family are doing well and looking forward to an enjoyable summer ahead. In order to keep your child’s school health record up-to-date and in preparation for 7th grade, we need a copy of your 6th grader’s physical and immunization record. If your 6th grader had a physical over the past year dated on or after July 2022, then please send us a copy of the physical within the next two weeks by June 1, 2023. If your 6th grader is due for their annual physical within the next month, then please email us now to let us know the date of their physical and send a copy of the actual physical following the appointment.
Please note: A recent physical within the past year with an updated immunization record is required by the MA Department of Public Health for entry into 7th grade. If your child has not had a physical within the past year and you have not yet scheduled their physical appointment, then please reach out to your child’s primary health care provider now to schedule a physical for this summer.
Physicals can be sent to the attention of Tricia Williams at the following address: [email protected] or mailed to my attention at Blake Middle School, 24 Pound Street, Medfield, MA 02052 whichever is more convenient for you. You may also send in a paper copy of the physical with your child, but please let us know as paperwork often ends up at the bottom of backpacks.

This summer Medfield TV with the support of Medfield Outreach, will be offering two Youth Media Program classes! Join us during your summer vacation for our Middle School program on video editing and self-care and for our High School Program on television hosting and painting.
(06/26 - 06/29) Our Middle School Program - “Self Care through Video Editing”
During this 4-day class, students will learn the fundamentals of post-production by using scripted video and b-roll to tell a compelling visual story. Students will also learn about healthy self-care tactics from a public health perspective and will share their own tips with the community through on-camera recordings in our studio.
(07/17 - 07/20) Our High School Program - “Connecting to Viewers through Painting”
During this 4-day class, students will practice their on-camera presence by delivering a step-by-step painting demonstration to the camera. Through detailed instruction, students will teach the audience how to create a landscape painting. Students will also learn to build their confidence and public speaking skills by pre-planning their painting show episode.
