Our morning announcement today at Blake...
Good morning…
As you know tomorrow (Friday, November 10) we have a day off from school and we will be able to enjoy a 3-day weekend in honor of Veterans Day – Saturday, November 11.
Veterans Day began as ‘Armistice Day’ on November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans – both living and dead – and gives thanks to veterans who served their country honorably. Today we are fortunate to have veterans coming to visit our 6th grade advisories to share their stories with us – this is an important and necessary time - to both recognize and thank our veterans for their service. I am proud and honored that they will be with us today. I also hope that you will take the initiative to introduce yourself and say thank you when you see the veterans around school or around town. It is important that we always keep this question in mind: What can we do for our veterans so they never go unrecognized and under-appreciated?
Thank you and have a great day and weekend!
