5/11 Professional Afternoon Update
During the professional afternoon this past Friday, our staff took time to examine the practices and procedures we have in place to maintain a safe environment for our students. A special thank you is sent to Kelly Campbell and Chief Meaney for their work in helping to establish thoughtful and well-planned presentation. As I always share to students, staff, and parents, our priority at all times is to assure a safe learning environment for all of our students and staff. Along these lines, this is a reminder to all parents to sign in at the main office any time that you come to Blake (whether it is for a short, quick visit or a meeting).

Blake Art Show
It has been an active year in the Fine Arts Department at Blake Middle School. Many have been keeping track of our student artwork by visiting our website (http://www.medfieldk12finearts.net), or following us on our Twitter (@Medfieldk12Arts) and/or Facebook Page (Medfield K-12 Fine Arts) accounts.
But if you really want to see what has been going on all year in the Art rooms, you're going to have to come to our Blake Middle School Annual Art Show. This year the Art Show will be up for viewing Tuesday, May 29th - Friday, June 1st in the Blake LMC and Principal's Hallway. Our Artists' Reception will be held the evening of Tuesday, May 29th from 6:00-7:30.
Please mark your calendars, so you don't miss the opportunity to view the show. Our students have done such a remarkable job in their Art classes, and we are sure you will agree!

Gettysburg Address Contest Winner
Every year the town of Medfield celebrates Memorial Day with a parade and a ceremony to honor those that have given their lives while serving in the military in the center of town. Each year a 7th grader from Blake plays a major role by reading the Gettysburg Address at the event. Competition for the event is stiff as students try to earn a spot to represent the grade at the ceremony. Interested competitors are asked to memorize the first half of the Address and deliver it to the three social studies teachers. They are judged on the delivery of the message, the clarity of ther voice, the volume of their presentation, and the connection they make with the judges. This year, Liam Dewey, has won the honor of representing the 7th grade and delivering Lincoln's famous speech at the Memorial Day Ceremony. The parade will begin at 9:45 with the ceremony at Veterans Park to follow.
Summer Skills Math Book
The order form for the Summer Skills Sharpener can be found on the Forms and Documents tab of this blog. These books are recommended by the math department for students to work on strengthening their math skills over the summer months. If you would like to purchase a book for your son or daughter, please fill out the information on the form and return the slip and a check for $17 made out to Blake Middle School to your child's current math teacher by Friday, May 18. If you are ordering multiple books, please use a separate form for each order - this will help us in the distribution process.
