Author Visit
We're pleased to report that bestselling author, Mike Lupica, will be presenting to our 6th and 7th graders on Tuesday, November 13. Drawing from his own life experiences as an athlete, sports journalist, father, and coach, Mike has crafted dozens of engaging and relatable stories. He’s one of the most popular authors at Blake and beyond. Mike will talk about his childhood, his writing and also give an overview of his brand new book, No Slam Dunk, which 6th and 7th grade students were given the opportunity to buy an autographed copy.
Food Drive 11/12-11/30
As the holidays approach, it is very important to help those in our community. You can do so by donating to our local Medfield Food Pantry! There will be a collection box outside the library where you can drop off non-perishable foods like canned soup, tuna, fruit, and more, from November 12th until the 30th. Don’t forget to donate!
Reminder for all Families
As the weather is turning a bit cooler, I am writing with a reminder about after school supervision at Blake. Students are welcome to stay after school with a teacher, in the library, in the fitness center, or to be part of an intramural activity. Supervision of students ends at 3:15 p.m. as that is when our front office staff leaves, library closes, and activities generally conclude. Exceptions may include the theatre program or sports. Students should plan for transportation home by 3:15 and are welcome to wait for rides outside in the area by the circle or in the lobby of the school but should not be wandering around the building, playing in the gym without adult supervision, or hanging out in unsupervised areas. Student safety is our priority so we ask that students be in a supervised activity or make plans to head home.
Term 1 Interim Reports
All outstanding signature sheets that accompanied the interim reports should be returned to advisory teachers. If you have any questions about your child's work on the reports, please start by having a conversation with your own child. If questions still exist, you should contact the teacher directly to gain more insight.
Blake Magazine (and More) Drive Information
Blake’s Magazine Drive began Monday, November 5th! Our Magazine Drive helps us raise funds for special events and activities that are specific to the Blake community. It’s an annual tradition and one of our most popular events. Please start looking around for magazines in your home that need renewing. Or consider ordering new subscriptions. New this year: Don't need a magazine? You can still support Blake by making a direct donation to the school - monetary donations count toward all prizes and class participation!
The catalogs and online store offer even more - choose from over 1600 unique and fun gifts, including holiday gifts and personalized items. Information packets came home with your students on 11/5/18. More details can be found on the Thursday packet. As always, thanks for your generous support!
Challenge Success
I encourage everyone to check out Medfield’s Challenge Success website and introductory video. We look forward to broadening our work and using this ‘platform’ as a way to continue our efforts at Blake to best support and meet the needs of all of our students.

Blakers- It is time for the annual 8th Grade Community Service Student-Staff Basketball Game Proceeds from the game will go to benefit various 8th grade community service events including Christmas in the City and the Tilen Village Dinner. Here at Blake, we help out in several ways, including taking the 8th grade into the city to help set up this great event, and donating money to help purchase gifts for children. The Tilden Village dinner is an annual dinner put on by 8th grade students, involving dinner, dessert, and music! The game will take place during Thursday, November 15th from 2:30-3:30 in the middle school gym, and the price per ticket is $3. Additional donations are welcome.

8th Grade American Mathematics Contest
The 8th Grade American Mathematics Contest (AMC 8) is a multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. It is sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. The contest is held yearly in November. Students from all over the country participate in this contest both individually and on a school-wide basis. In the past, students in 8th grade Algebra I accelerated have participated. We will continue this tradition, but would like to extend the opportunity to participate in the AMC8 Contest to all 8th grade math students this year.
The exam will be given during E period on November 13th. Students who do not have math during this time slot will be excused from their class. Although the test is challenging, it certainly allows for a variety of learners to meet success and experience a high level of mathematical thinking. Below are several links that will allow you to explore this contest. All students in Algebra I Accelerated math classes have been registered. If your child is in Math 8 and you are interested in having your child participate in this test, please complete this Google form to sign up. Please note: If your child is in Algebra I Accelerated, they have already been registered.
For information about the AMC 8 Contest, click here.

For more information or to apply, please visit medfield.net and find applications under the tab "employment opportunities". Please contact Kelly Campbell at [email protected] with any questions.
Substitute Nurses
As with our teaching positions, from time to time our nurse, Tricia Williams, will be out of the building and we need a substitute nurse for these days. You can contact me ([email protected]) or Tricia Williams ([email protected]). By the same token, if you have friends in the area who would have an interest in serving as a substitute, please let them know that they can contact us as well. The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority, and we would appreciate your interest in one of these roles.
